WiMax CPE (customer premise equipment, more commonly known as modem) provides wireless internet access at a rate of max 70 Mbits/s to end users. Though it is theoretical limit, but practical demonstration has shown it offers much better rate as compared to presently offered technology CDMA EVDO. WiMax is upcoming technology and it supports MIMO configuration in which end device can have multiple antennas for receive and transmit that's why it offers better coverage. It utilises SOFDMA, a frequency division multiplexing technique and 64 QAM modulation technique to provide better spectral efficiency and data rate.
Latest version of WiMax known as Mobile WiMax also supports mobility and can provide internet speed upto 70 Mbits/s. This means WiMax supports on demand video, video conferencing on move.
